Catch a whopper, tell a whopper
Alaska attracts salmon fishers like honey attracts bears, and some truly great whoppers have been hooked (and told) at the Seward Silver Salmon Derby. The event is one of the longest running and most popular derbies in Alaska. This could be because of the prize money, but I suspect it has more to do with the huge coho salmon—last year's derby winner weighed 8.56 kilograms (18.87 pounds).
