More and more people are excited to go camping in B.C.! Demand for campsite reservations has grown significantly, and according to an article on CBC.ca, the B.C. government has a plan.

The B.C. government plans to hire more park rangers and open more than 1,900 new campsites to meet growing demand, the premier announced Monday.

The province will spend up to $22.9 million over five years to create the new sites as part of the B.C. Parks Future Strategy.

The article also delved into the reservation system, which has become increasingly competitive.

The popularity of camping in B.C. parks has been growing, with reservations increasing year after year — and an annual frenzy to secure choice sites that has sparked calls for reform.

Earlier this month, the province also announced changes to the booking system to address complaints about reselling and overbooking of spaces.

There will be new campsites built throughout B.C., with more being placed in high-demand locations such as the Kootenays, the Okanagan and the Lower Mainland. The Province will also be funding the campground amenities, water/sewer expansion, and required roads. The campgrounds will be made fully accessible, so that those with disabilities may also enjoy the B.C. camping experience.
