Greg, Arlene and Samantha Mykytiuk and their dog Bear are from Lethbridge. They have been going to Mount Fernie Provincial Park for 17 years. They take between four and five weeks every year in their Monterey Extreme 24-foot RV to come to this absolute favourite spot of theirs.

Greg said that one summer they decided to travel across B.C. and try different campgrounds, to find out if they were missing out on something.

“We didn’t find even one that holds a candle to this spot,” he said. “Mount Fernie campground is quiet, the campsites are secluded and are surrounded by trees.”

He said that it is difficult to get in without a reservation, as it is a very popular campground.

“We have everything we need right here,” he continued.  “ The campsites are large and private, Fernie is within biking or walking distance, and there are endless amounts of hiking trails leaving from the campground.”

The previous day the family had actually walked into Fernie to buy a few groceries at Save On Foods. The walk, the shopping and a stop for ice cream on the way back all took less than three hours.

Greg said that one year they got lost in the hiking trails going to Island Lake Lodge.

“It  was fantastic. There were gorgeous, huge cedar trees. Even though we were lost we loved every minute of the experience and have returned many times since.”
