Yuma has always attracted the attention of outdoor enthusiasts, with its vibrant natural environment and the selection of activities that can be pursued in the area.

Fishing, hunting, hiking and boating are a few favourite choices, and camping spots are abundant in this warm locale. If you want the thrill of more rigorous recreation, the surrounding landscape is ideal for off-road vehicles, horseback riding and rockhounding. Due to Yuma’s mild winters, snowbirds consider it one of the most alluring vacation destinations.

If you plan to be in Yuma and you love the great outdoors, you will definitely want to make a trip to Betty’s Kitchen Watchable Wildlife Area.

“Betty’s Kitchen offers a lush, shady spot along the Lower Colorado River,” said Lori Cook of the Yuma field office of the Bureau of Land Management. “Visitors can kick off their shoes while casting a line and fishing from the pier. Pack a lunch or barbecue in the picnic area, or take a stroll along the 0.5-mile (0.8-kilometre) interpretive trail. No matter what the time of year, Betty’s Kitchen promises visitors a peek at some of Arizona’s wildlife.”

Venture a moderate distance out of town, and check out the Blythe Intaglios and Bouse Fisherman Intaglio, where geoglyphs bring local history to life. Sears Point is another intriguing location, with hundreds of petroglyphs along the Gila River’s volcanic basalt outcroppings.
