Watrous and Manitou Beach are neighbouring communities that share natural and cultural attractions that appeal to all age groups.

There’s something in the water

The resort village of Manitou Beach lies next to a spring-fed mineral saline lake. The density of the salt water creates incredible buoyancy and gives one a feeling of weightlessness. Even better, the minerals occurring naturally in the water are reputed to offer healing properties, easing muscle and joint pain and improving the health of hair and skin. In the late 1920s, Manitou Beach was a resort that rivalled Banff in popularity.

One of Canada’s largest indoor mineral spas, Manitou Springs Spa and Hotel boasts two indoor geothermal pools. These pools offer the same healing properties as the waters of Manitou Lake, combined with heat to provide a soothing and rejuvenating experience. Spa services and fine dining are also available here.

A long history of dancing

After a relaxing soak, visitors can complete their vacation with an evening of classic dancing at the famous Danceland. This historic 80-year-old dance hall has a floor that measures 5,000 square feet. The dance floor was built on a cushion of horsetail hair, making the dance experience uniquely effortless and smooth.

The structure’s architecture has to be seen to be believed, and the acoustics are perfect for the live bands that play here. In fact, many famous musicians have performed in this magnificent hall over the years. During the ’30s, legendary performers such as Don Messer and Wilf Carter delighted audiences at Danceland. Today, the sound is maintained at a controlled volume to maximize the comfort of guests and enable them to converse while still enjoying the musical performances.

Danceland features entertainment year round with weekly dances and events. Tours are also available.
