The drive from Jackson Hole to Rock Springs, Wyoming took us through a beautiful canyon to the town of Alpine. From there it was out into the desert to Montpellier, Idaho and then through the sculptured hills of badlands to Rock Springs. The next day we drove south through the Flaming Gorge to Vernal, Utah.

The first part of the drive out of Green River is uninteresting desert, however once you get past the town of Milan, the red rock formations are truly breathtaking. From high up on the hilltops you can see for miles up or down the red rock cliffs of the valley and the Flaming Gorge Lake. For the evening we camped at the Steinaker State Park. It is a very quiet park in the midst of sagebrush and small trees.

The next day it was off to Grand Junction, Colorado. We stopped at a small town called Fruita, about five miles west of Grand Junction and camped at the James M. Robb State Park. This park is situated on the banks of the Colorado River. We were only going to stay one night, however the park facilities and camping areas were so nice that we stayed two nights. The nearby visitors centre had wi-fi that allowed me to communicate back home. We decided to next travel to Moab, Utah and visit the Arches and Canyons National Parks.
