Cranbrook residents are really spoiled for choice when it comes to outdoor recreation. There are myriad natural areas to see and enjoy.

Wasa Lake Provincial Park, just a short drive from town, boasts some of the best spots for swimming, hiking, canoeing and camping.

Another much-loved destination near Cranbrook is Moyie Lake, where the RV sites are plentiful and the water sports opportunities abound. There are ample wildlife viewing areas, and 1,300 metres of sandy beach to lounge on.

Still looking for more fun in the water? Jim Smith Lake is very close by and has some of the greatest beaches and clean water that lends itself to fishing and water sports.

You can even find a wildlife sanctuary right in town. Elizabeth Lake Bird Sanctuary is home to thousands of migratory birds, including ducks, blackbirds and, of course, the famous Canada geese. Take a stroll along the walking trail to see these and countless other types of wildlife. The trails are also an ideal place to take your dog for an on-leash excursion.

Hiking is popular in Cranbrook, and visitors should check out the Rails to Trails multi-use route connecting Cranbrook and Kimberley, as well as the Cranbrook Community Forest and Isadore Canyon Trail.
