Central Alberta will be celebration-centric this year, with an extensive lineup of events on order. Some are family festivities with activities that youngsters and adults can share. Others are designed to draw music lovers from all over North America.

No matter what the theme or the focus, all of these events show off some of that renowned Central Alberta flavour.

Jammin’ at the Jamboree

Perhaps one of the most eagerly anticipated events in the region is the 19th annual Big Valley Jamboree, which is scheduled to take place in Camrose from July 28 to 31, 2011.

As usual, the entertainment roster is stellar, with top country musicians like Toby Keith, Gary Allan and Jason Aldean taking the stage. There will be several other rising stars joining the Big Valley team as well.

Bringing a touch of the Australian country scene, Melbourne’s Jetty Road will also be on the jamboree’s lineup. This band quickly became a country favourite, winning an Australian CMAA Award in 2010 for Best Group. They were warmly received at the 2009 Big Valley jamboree kick-off party, so their fans are ready and waiting to see them take the main event by storm this year.

Sweet selections

One perk of being in Central Alberta is having a range of communities to visit, each with its own individual flair. One way the region is celebrating this diversity is by launching an innovative tourism campaign called the Alberta Sweet 16: Summer Fun in Central Alberta.

From the May long weekend all the way until Labour Day in September, local communities will host 16 weekends of festive activities—including rodeos, family events, music festivals and more.
