Summer is festival season in British Columbia

It's Canada's 150th birthday this year: B.C. is hosting a number of summer festivals to keep you celebrating all season long

B.C. has all the natural scenery and multicultural spirit to make a spectacular festival destination. This summer, there will be a number of events taking place in this gorgeous province, in celebration of Canada's 150th birthday. Whether you prefer food-centric events, family activities or musical performances, you're going to be entertained. Here are just a few of the hundreds of events that will be taking place, just to give you a small sample:

Bard on the Beach Shakespeare Festival

This event has been happening each year for more than 25 years, and takes place in Vancouver’s Vanier Park. See live theatre at its finest, and enjoy some of Shakespeare's classic plays. The 2017 event runs from June 1st to September 23rd.

The Concord Pacific Vancouver Dragon Boat Festival

This racing event takes place June 23rd to 25th. There is more than just boat racing, however. You can also take in interactive art exhibits, the Sea to Sky Circus pageantry and live music on the shorelines of False Creek. 

TD Vancouver International Jazz Festival

Running from June 22nd to July 2nd, 2017, this popular musical event embraces a wide variety of styles, including funk, blues, fusion, and jazz. There are venues throughout the city, with hundreds of performances (some free and some not) put on by close to 2,000 artists.

The Williams Lake Stampede

This western-style event in the Cariboo Chilcotin region, is all about cowboy culture - with bull-riding competitions, live music, and much more. The 2017 stampede will be held June 29th to July 2nd.

Bella Coola Music Festival

If you long to experience a musical celebration on the coast, the Bella Coola Music Festival will blow your mind. It incorporates all different genres of music, and takes place July 22nd and 23rd, 2017.

Wanderlust Whistler

Need to unwind? Wanderlust Whistler is happening August 3rd to 6th, 2017. Come to this four-season village to embrace nature, and spend a few days taking in the meditation, yoga, musical performances, markets and informative speakers. 

ArtsWells Festival Of All Things Art

A charming town in the Cariboo Chilcotin region, Wells, B.C., is known for its artistic presence. August 4th to 7th, 2017, the Festival of All Things Art will be hosted by ArtsWells. You can find kids activities, film screenings, musical performances, workshops, an art walk and so much more.
