You no longer have to choose between an island holiday and a camping excursion - in B.C. you can have both. After you set up camp at your west coast destination, you can travel just a short distance to explore one of many nearby island locations.

HelloBC highlighted some of the small islands in this famously scenic province - here are some of the most impressive examples:

Bowen Island

Bowen Island is just a short distance from West Vancouver, and is known for its appeal to outdoor recreation lovers. Try hiking, kayaking or riding your bike around this forested paradise.

Galiano Island

If you travel to Galiano Island, be sure to visit Montague Harbour Marine Provincial Park. You will find white shell beaches, tidal lagoons and other natural wonders there. After a day of outdoor activity, relax at the Pilgrimme Restaurant and enjoy a gourmet meal.

Salt Spring Island

Salt Spring Island is home to a number of artisans and craftsmen, as well as farmers and culinary artists. This island is known for its fabulous Salt Spring Saturday Market, which runs from April through October.

Pender Island

Pender Island is a favourite among campers, especially since it has its own campground-style resort called Woods on Pender, where you can stay in one of their luxurious Airstreams, retro trailers, cabins or lodge rooms. This is ideal if you chose to leave your unit behind when you set off on your island journey.
