Fun by the sea

Seafest kicks off on June 12

Prince Rupert celebrates 30 years of Seafest from June 12 to 15 with the largest parade in the northwest, live concerts, and soapbox derby and kayak races.

Joy Sundin, director for the Prince Rupert special events society, said Seafest is great for everyone.

“We probably have 10,000 people here,” she said. “On Saturday and Sunday we literally have a sea of people.”

Sundin said one of the festival highlights is a competition in which participants build their own boat and race it in the ocean.

“Sometimes you get people who might have had something to do with building boats,” she said, “and then you get other people that haven’t got a clue what they have done. It’s really quite funny.”
