Many of us wish we could escape to a warm, comfortable home away from home without travelling a great distance. This need was recognized and fulfilled by a gorgeous little getaway destination called Sonora Point RV Resort. Located at the side of Spectacle Lake in the Many Lakes area of Okanogan County, Washington, Sonora Point provides a unique desert climate within a few minutes’ drive of the Canadian border.

“This resort was purchased by three partners: Trevor and Carolyn Johnson, Lorenzo Arcari, and Curt and Sue Deltroy, all of the greater Vancouver, B.C., area,” said Bud Burse, co-manager of Sonora Point RV Resort. “The three men are professional firemen for the Vancouver area. They have plans to do a lot of improvements at such time as the permitting process is complete. Among these are a new office/clubhouse, swimming pool and spa, and other improvements to the RV sites themselves.”

Even without the improvements, Sonora Point is the perfect spot for RVers to relax by the lake and soak up the sun. While it is quiet and undisturbed, it is also close to populated areas, so convenience is yet another perk.

“This is a very quiet spot, very little traffic and a lot of people have been coming here for a lot of years to enjoy the great fishing that Spectacle Lake offers,” said Burse. “Some have been coming over 30 years and the clientele is pretty much established as a great place to fish during the early spring months. Later, water skiers come here as it does not have a lot of boat traffic and there is lots of room to ski.”

Sonora Point is also a fantastic place to golf, ride horseback and hike. It is centrally located with easy access and substantial amenities.

“Vivian Burse and I are the current managers for the owners while they pursue their careers,” said Burse. “We are full-time RVers and are snowbirds as well. We have both lived near here most of our lives, and are dedicated to the country around us. It is where we call home, and all our kids and grandkids are close to us here, which makes it all the more attractive to us. We personally have fallen in love with the place and it is home to us.”

This calming atmosphere is ideal during our turbulent times, when many of us would like to get away from it all. Canadian visitors can even get a discount on the price of their stay.

“We are offering Canadian citizens a 15 per cent discount to offset some of the disparity between our money exchange,” said Burse. “A lot of Canadians have found this to be a much more relaxing place to be than the resorts around Osoyoos and Okanagan Lake, as well as being less expensive.”

It is suggested that reservations be made ahead of time for both RVers and tenters. To do so, call (509) 223-3700 seven days a week. For more information, visit www.sonorapointresort.com
