Making old new again

The demand for a little vintage style trailer now being manufactured in Moyie, B.C., has been “phenomenal” says Steve Brunell, one of the owners of Canadian Teardrop Trailers. Brunell says he and his partner, Gord Stager are turning out four trailers a month and they plan to double production in the future.

The trailers are based on the original teardrop design that became popular in the 1940s. The partners began to build them for owners of vintage cars but they say now, that everyone who sees them wants one.

Weighing just 795 pounds, the trailers can be pulled by any size of vehicle and they make an ideal camping unit for weekend trips. Each unit comes with a double bed, a two burner propane stove, a small fridge and a fold-out exterior table.

Modern construction techniques and materials have enhanced this little “old” trailer making it a real head turner and show grabber at vintage car shows where it has been displayed. Currently most buyers are from the U.S., but more and more Canadians are discovering the Teardrop trailers too.
