RV park set to be trashed

We were pleased to hear from Barbara Seoane who lives in an RV park at the University of California, Irvine. Sounds like this RV park is full of vintage RVs, great for restoration. Here’s Barbara’s note...

My name is Barbara Seoane and I live in an RV park at the University of California Irvine Campus. It is named Irvine Meadows West and was established in 1979 as affordable housing for graduate students. Unfortunately the UC Regents are closing the RV park in July of 2004 and the students who own RVs here (most of whom have no vehicle to tow the unit) will have to either sign the unit over to the UC regents or attempt to sell it before the park closes. I am renovating a 1984 32-foot Alfa trailer and am amazed at how many older trailers—some dating back to the 1950s—and fifth-wheels are going to be demolished unless someone rescues them. Most of the students have little knowledge of RVs and are looking forward to their first apartment on their own. The park has been featured many times in the Los Angeles Times and Orange County Register as well as an local TV stations. I encourage you and your readers to come by and see the last year of a university tradition. Irvine Meadows West is located on the UCI campus at 4100 Bison Avenue, Irvine, California, just five miles from the beach. Anyone looking for a vintage RV to restore will be pleased with the assortment available. Hope to hear from or see you soon.

—Barbara Seoane
