SNOWBIRD TIPS Getting ready to fly south To ensure a good trip, important for snowbirds to make sure their unit is fully prepared
CRACKED UP: Incorrect winterization of hot and cold water systems can result in costly repairs of cracked pipes.
At this time of year when the weather is turning colder, many RVers are settling down and preparing for the winter ahead, but for snowbirds, things are just getting started. To ensure your trip down south goes smoothly, there are some important things that need to be dealt with before you leave.
RV Technician Reg DeYoung suggests the 10 following tips to ensure your trip goes well:
1. The first thing you need to do is get up on the roof and look for cracks and make sure the sealants on the roof, the sides and around windows are tight.
2. Due to regular wear, it is a good idea to have the wheel bearing repacked on your coach.
3. Because you are going on a long trip, have the brake shoes checked and adjusted on your trailer and tow vehicle.
4. Make a 360 degree check to make sure all the lights are functioning properly.
5. Check your brake control system to see if it is functioning properly with the RV.
6. Examine tires for wear and replace if necessary.
7. Since you are probably going to experience changes in temperature, make sure your cold and hot water systems are winterized accordingly. Incorrect winterization of hot and cold water systems can result in costly repairs of cracked pipes.
