Fairmont Hot Springs Resort is providing wine connoisseurs with a reason to make the delicious journey to the East Kootenay destination. On November 2 and 3, the resort will be hosting the 6th Annual East Kootenay Wine Festival, a weekend-long celebration that highlights samples from some of the finest B.C. vintners.

Erika Baltrus, the marketing co-ordinator at Fairmont Hot Springs Resort, believes the festival will provide those with gourmet palates a feast for the senses.

“The weekend includes a gala dinner on Friday night in the award-winning Mountain Flowers Dining Room featuring the wine winners of 2006,” said Baltrus. “(There will be) an educational wine seminar on Saturday afternoon followed by the wine festival itself that evening. During the evening, guests get the chance to sample a wide variety of B.C. wines and Canadian cheese while enjoying live music, (and) the chance to win great door prizes.”

Festival-goers vote on their favourite vintage, with the winner being announced at the end of the evening. Many of the wines presented at the festival are unavailable at wine stores, but will be available for purchasing at the festival.

Baltrus said the event is very popular; many guests start asking about the next wine festival early in the season.

“It is a wonderful weekend for everyone from the wine connoisseur to the complete amateur,” said Baltrus.

When not sampling the fine food and wine, take the time to enjoy the soothing hot pools or the resort’s first-class spa.
