The Lion King comes to Edmonton this summer
This acclaimed Broadway production will run for a multiple-week engagement
The warmth and music of Africa is coming to the Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium this summer. From July 2 to August 2, Edmonton’s most eagerly-awaited stage production, The Lion King, will be performed at the newly renovated world-class space.The musical production will feature the Elton John/Tim Rice songs from the animated feature, plus three more, as well as music by South African Lebo M, Mark Mancina, Jay Rifkin, Julie Taymore and Hans Zimmer.

Director Julie Taymore was the first woman to win a Tony for Best Director of a Musical. Overall, the production won six Tonys, including Best Musical, a Grammy for Best Musical Show Album and numerous other important theatre awards.

What does it mean for the City of Edmonton to host this award-winning production?
We’re thrilled to see Disney’s The Lion King roar into Edmonton at the Northern Jubilee Auditorium this summer. The award-winning production’s run for four weeks promises to be a hit in Canada’s Festival City. Securing this production speaks to the calibre of talent our region continues to attract—we’re confident The Lion King will be a draw for residents and visitors alike during the summer season.
What can event-goers expect of the venue?
As Northern Alberta’s premier performing arts and community venue, the Jubilee Auditorium is suited for any event. Since 1957 it has touched the lives of countless Albertans through stage performances, concerts, celebrations, community events and educational programs. The Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium is also home to the Edmonton Opera and the Alberta Ballet who bring year-round enjoyment to many. Over the years, ballet, musicals, stand-up comedians, theatre productions, bands, orchestras, dance festivals, awards ceremonies and more have delighted packed-house audiences.
Today, that magic is recreated in the newly renovated building designed for patron comfort. The main theatre and lobby areas are all renewed. Add acoustical enhancements and the music is sweeter and the experiences are more memorable for all. Some of the services to help make your experience more enjoyable include:
Assisted listening devices: Personal infrared receivers can be used in the auditorium. Alternatively, stethoscopic receivers may be rented for no cost and are suitable for personal direct input connection as well.
Binocular rentals: Binoculars are available for rent at every event. Please check with the patron services booth located in the southeast end of the main lobby.
Booster seats: Booster seats are available at every event to enable children to fully experience the performance. They may be picked up at the patron services booth located at the southeast end of the main lobby.
Seating layouts: The Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium is very pleased to invite you to sit back and enjoy our new and improved seating. Our new seating plan, completed as part of our renovations, features improved sightlines, and of course, fabulous new seats. We are sure you will enjoy our new main floor terrace and first balcony terrace seating which complement the other wonderful seats throughout the auditorium.
