The folks in Eugene are lucky—because the city embraces people of all ages, and all recreational preferences. Outdoor activities abound, and indoor fun can be had at various artistic, cultural and scientific attractions. Here are some top things to see and do while you're there.

1.) Take a scientific approach

The Science Factory Children's Museum and Exploration Dome will thrill and educate your little ones. They will be amazed by the interactive exhibits, which cover a timeline right from prehistoric years up to modern energy and scientific discoveries. Say hi to Renegade the resident iguana, and other reptilian and amphibian pals at the Lizard Terrarium.

2.) Seek summer festivities

The Oregon Country Fair is an annual summer event that takes place 13 miles west of Eugene. With food, crafts, displays and entertainment, you won't know what to do first.

3.) Get your artistic fix

Creativity knows no limits, at StudioWest Fine Art Gallery & Glassblowing Studio. You can see exhibits from talented artists, and even schedule a glassblowing workshop or see how it's done at the Friday night demonstrations.

4.) Visit a hub of activity

At the University of Oregon's Museum of Natural and Cultural History, there are exhibits that highlight First Nations history, local artisans and even hands-on science-based activities for young visitors. Check their website regularly for new events and displays.

5.) Birds of a feather…

In southeast Eugene, you can learn about native bird species at the Cascades Raptor Center. This non-profit nature centre and wildlife hospital holds educational activities—with the help of their resident hawks, owls, eagles and other raptors—to increase public awareness about wildlife issues.
